Description
Lectures on different aspects of mystery and suspense fiction from its very beginnings to the present day. Prof. Schmid focuses on key figures (the private eye, the femme fatale), the defining features and concepts (clues, poetic justice), and the variety of settings. He examines the many varieties of the genre, including hard-boiled crime fiction, police procedurals, and courtroom dramas. He also looks at the global spread of mystery and suspense fiction and the increased presence of minority groups in suspense stories.
