He flew the F86 Saber and the F100 Super Saber at the bases mentioned in this book. He volunteered and flew 238 combat missions in the F100. He was in a F100 flying squadron for more than ten years. He volunteered to go back to combat flying in Vietnam as an F4 Phantom pilot. It was his last year in the Air Force and he felt lucky that he could actually fly fighters up to the end of his career. He flew 172 combat missions in the F4 Phantom.
